Hello. Gary Lockwood here again with more breakthrough ideas
and information on how to:
Grow your business - Make more money - Have more fun.

Thank you again for referring this newsletter to your friends and
colleagues. I really appreciate you for helping to pass the word
about this newsletter.

Is your next vacation really a Guilt Trip?  When you want to just sit
and think for awhile, do you hide or feel like you're "not working"?

Much of this goes back to the Industrial Age economic model.

For the past 150 years, we have been taught that time on the job
must be non-stop hard work in order to be most productive.

No wonder so many people started to look toward their time away
from work as a respite from hard labor and grim pressure.

The emergence of creativity, ideas, and information as our most
valuable resources, and the pervasiveness of the global, 24-hour
business world have changed our concept of "time equals money".

My article today discusses two concepts relating to this trans-
formational change in the way we work - and don't work.

My hope is that you use the ideas and information in these
BizSuccess Breakthroughs broadcasts to get the results you
really want.

If you want some help in putting them into practice, or if you
have questions, email or call me.

SUCCESS to You....
Gary Lockwood

   "Feeling Guilty About Time Off?"

Is your next vacation really a Guilt Trip? When you want to just sit
and think for awhile, do you hide or feel like you're "not working"?

Much of this goes back to the Industrial Age economic model.
In this Industrial Age model, jobs were broken down into smaller
and smaller tasks that could be repeated again and again for
maximum productivity. The assembly line, right? As it turns out,
it wasn't just the assembly line jobs that were treated this way.
Salespeople, accountants, managers and others in the organ-
ization were subjected to the same job design.

As a result, for the past 150 years, we have been taught that time
on the job must be non-stop hard work in order to be most productive.
Many of us learned this from our parents and early bosses. We
heard messages such as "Work really hard and you will be rewarded."
Or, "You're here to work, not play around. Get busy."

No wonder so many people started to look toward their time away
from work as a respite from hard labor and grim pressure. Days
off and weekends began to be treasured as time to enjoy ourselves,
relax and have a little fun. Trouble is, many people now feel they
must take fewer days off to stay caught up with increasing work
demands. Working weekends has become standard practice for
many over-worked business professionals.

Business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals are even worse
at this. This group works an average of 12 hours per week more than
the average employee.

Think of it this way; you're the brains behind the business, right?
In order to keep being successful, you've got to keep that brain
sharp and creative. Trouble is, if you use it continuously, it will
get dull.

Mass communications, including television, radio, fax, advertising,
electronic mail, cell phones and pagers require us to constantly
process huge amounts of information. This means we must
maintain an extremely high level of mental activity whether we
want to or not. It sometimes seems that there is no escape.
Most of us can relate all too well to the meaning of "information
overload". The technologically advanced world in which we live
can wear us out very quickly.

This weariness can wreak havoc on your business. Consider the
symptoms of fatigue: lack of innovation, irritability, reduced
productivity, and stress. The list goes on. And we are frequently
unaware of how run down we are getting.

We are moving away from the industrial age into the information
age, yet the work ethic that most of us grew up with taught us to
maximize work time - time at the factory or the office - with
activity. Even our language reflects the inherent value judgment
of time away from work activities. We call non-work-activity
"off-time" or "down-time".

The emergence of creativity, ideas, and information as our most
valuable resources, and the pervasiveness of the global, 24-hour
business world have changed our concept of "time equals money".
Now, it's "results equals money". And we all know that more time
at the office does not mean more results. In fact, it often means
less results and more mistakes.

What's the answer? A couple of ideas...

One solution is to take time away from your business. Free time
makes you sharper. Free time provides the rejuvenation you
need to restore your confidence and sense of well-being. You
come back from time off with a new perspective, a higher energy
level, increased creativity, and often, a breakthrough idea. Take
one vacation a year, get one breakthrough. Take two vacations,
get two breakthroughs. Take three, get three.

Plan at least three breakthroughs this year. This is a hard concept
for many business people, even those of you who won't admit to
being workaholics. But, you might as well face up to it - you need
free time. The success of your business is riding on it.

Free time isn't a reward for working hard; it's necessary for optimum
performance and productivity. We need free time, away from the
business, to rejuvenate ourselves. When you are aggressive
about getting rest and relaxation, regularly and frequently, you'll
see increased creativity and productivity. The more free time you
take, the more creativity and productivity you will experience.
To make breakthroughs in income, productivity and creativity,
significantly increase the amount of free time away from your
business.

The second idea is to make time each day to just think. Pause from
the busy-ness of activity, take a walk or sit quietly, and think.

Ponder your next big strategic decision. Contemplate the future of
your enterprise. Visualize your next key presentation. Consider the
possibilities for engaging your most talented employees. imagine
a solution to the current problem. Reflect on what your personal
preferred future looks like. Mull over the potential obstacles to next
months results.

As I mentioned earlier, creativity, ideas, and information are your
most valuable resources. Why are you jeopardizing those key
resources by engaging in the hamster-cage style of constant
activity?

Stop and think.

You are the brains of the outfit. Right?

You spend the first 2 years of their life teaching them to
walk and talk. Then you spend the next 16 telling them to
 sit down and shut-up.

Grandchildren are God's reward for not killing your children.

Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is
like clearing the driveway before it has stopped snowing.

There is only one pretty child in the world and every mother
 has it. -  Chinese Proverb.

Mothers of teens know why animals eat their young.

I asked Mom if I was a gifted child...  she said they certainly
 wouldn't have paid for me.

Children are natural mimics, who act like their parents despite
every effort to teach them good manners.

Children seldom misquote you.  In fact, they usually repeat
word for word what you shouldn't have said.

The main purpose of holding children's parties is to remind
yourself that there are children more awful than your own.

We child proofed our home 3 years ago and they're still

Be nice to your kids.  They'll choose your nursing home.

What I Have

 I have had 2 By-pass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees;
 Fought prostate cancer, and diabetes;
 Am half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine;
Take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and
